Despite the fact that it's still a sweltering 90-something degrees in New York City at the moment, with so many great fall clothes hitting stores I've been distracted by what I'm going to wear when the weather cools down. Here, a list of my five need-to-have-them, cozy-chic picks to get ready for the change in seasons.

1. Rugby's Shawl-Collar Sweater
This looks like the kind of thing a handsome older gentleman would be wearing in a Rockwell portrait, only modernized and made ladylike by the shrunken, body-skimming fit. The leather buckle is a really good detail, and I like what the model has going on here, with skinny dark denim and stacked heels, taking the look in a chic, decidedly un-grandpa-ish direction.

2. Rugby's Thigh-High Tights
For layering purposes, thigh-highs are the best. They're easy to slip on under a skirt or dress, and in the dead of winter, you can use them as a base under jeans without the sausage-like feel (am I alone in this?) you get from wearing regular waist-to-toe tights under pants. In wool, these are nicely insulating (excellent for transitioning floaty spring dresses well into November) and I especially like their ribbed texture and deep charcoal color.
3. Lace-Up Ankle Boots
I love the idea of a semi-Victorian, lace-up ankle boot as an alternative to the knee-high equestrian ones I've been wearing the last few winters. These hit the perfect note between rugged and refined, and the chestnut leather is the sort of thing that's even cooler after you've roughed it up a bit, so I wouldn't have to worry about them in the rain or on snowy salt-covered sidewalks. I'm picturing them with slim, ankle length jeans or with a floaty floral dress to toughen up the look. (Check Luckymag.com for more styling tips.)

4. Rugby's Wool Ruffled Dress
I live in wool shifts in colder months. They simplify the process of staying warm (even though I've been on the east coast for nearly a decade, being from Southern California I find all this layering exhausting sometimes!), and without exerting any effort, you look stylishly pulled together. The cascading ruffles and flared skirt are playful embellishments, but still tame enough that you could get away with wearing it to the office.
5. Sparkly Statement Necklace
A heavily beaded, unabashedly feminine necklace is just the thing to counterbalance the more traditional, sharply tailored items in my closet. I'm a big fan of the elaborate, face-framing silhouette, and the combination of rhinestones and chains is both pretty and punk. I'd use this as an unexpected accent to a preppy blue oxford and jeans.
